How to compare area, height and diameter honestly

For lengths and diameters, scale shapes by the value ratio. For equal-area squares, scale side lengths by the square root of the area ratio.

How it works

If one country has four times another country’s area, its equal-area square should have twice the side length. Making it four times as wide would incorrectly display sixteen times the area.

What to know

Compare like units and keep the measurement definition visible. Height, diameter, area and volume answer different questions. A custom value is a user-provided reference, not a verified measurement. Small shapes can be hard to see at a shared scale, so always consult the text values too.
